On Sunday, 13th November 2022 we held a Remembrance Day Service at Ellis Cottage Lone Pine Memorial Garden. Following the service we dedicated panels commemorating servicemen from Diamond Creek District who served in WW1 that have been in place on the barn wall for over two years. We are very happy to have finally had the opportunity to officially unveil the panels. After the service and before the dedication, Terry Beaton presented an address “A Tribute to Our Local Veterans.” Thorough research has determined that there were no nurses from our district who served in WW1.
The attendance was good at around 45 including representatives of the Nillumbik Shire Council – Mayor Frances Eyre, Councillors Peter Perkins and Geoff Payne – Montmorency Eltham R.S.L., Diamond Creek R.S.L., Eltham Men’s Shed, Diamond Valley College and Friends of Kangaroo Ground War Memorial Park. We would like to thank them all for their generous and welcome support.
We would also like to thank Rodney Simmonds for providing and setting up his sound system for us, Lorraine Bates for sewing the cover for the panels and The Veggie Empire for propagating and looking after the poppies for us. Diamond Creek R.S.L. would like to hear from anyone interested in supporting or joining. They can be contacted by email – diamondcreekrsl@gmail.com
